How about a way to ALSO manually killing Punkbuster when you don't need it? (i.e. when you're not playing a game).

Since both the PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe processes automatically put themselves in the Startup processes list and running in the background for NO FRIGGIN' REASON other than to waste moar of your resources, we're going to disable them.

    Vista:

Start logo > services.msc (type in search box and hit enter)

    XP:

Start > Run > services.msc (type it in and hit enter)

Scroll down both to the PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe services, right-click on each and hit 'Properties', set the Start-up type from 'Automatic' to 'Manual' (so the game can start it up when it calls for it, setting it to 'disabled' altogether might not let the game run the process and you'll get kicked on PB-enabled servers). Make sure the service is also stopped by hitting, 'Stop'. Apply it, and hit 'ok'.

It shouldn't be running now in the background in Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del).

Oh, and it also a tendency to revert back to it's default start-up type of 'automatic' when it restarts the PB processes if you join a game. What I'd do is just repeat the process again of killing it, and then setting it to 'manual' again. An annoyance it is.
