Anybody know a good cooling option for my 4870? Its too hot for the current fan (normally AC in my room keeps it just cold enough, but they turned if off). I was looking at water cooling, but dunno anything about it.

go into the driver settings, and crank that fan up to max all the time.

Ouch, must sound like a vacuum cleaner already. It's normal for certain cards to run hot (knowing ATI cards run hot enough already), they are designed to stand higher temps. than your average CPU. It will get to the point when it's too much when you see decreased performance when the card is stressed in intensive 3D apps as it will downclock itself to prevent any damage. Also artifacts (graphical glitches) would be present. I would probably be worried then.
I guess what you can do is install one of those VGA slot coolers to blow air towards your 4870 (some might make things worse though and hinder your airflow), or better than that is to just replace the stock 4870 cooler with something of a higher quality like a Zalman cooler is an idea, if you aren't comfortable liquid cooling it your card.
If you wanna go for a more cheaper and ghetto-ish cooling solution, you could probably tape an additional fan to your case to blow air towards your card.

I'm not uncomfortable with installing liquid cooling, just the price tag on it that has me. Right now the card doesn't hit critical, but the system locks up alot when playing games with high graphics requirements.

As well as i can get it atm... going to see if bestbuy / radio shack have any small fans today while i'm out and about. Right now i have the side off and normally have a small fan that sits beside it.
