You can get an AMD 4000+ to 5000+ and a graphic card like the nvidia 8600GT for around $800. That will run the old games and the new games. I have an AMD 4400+ with the 8600 GT and I run all the old games and new games. Also note that most of the new comps now are installed with Vista. That might affect your old games. Make sure you get XP if you want to run BHD and other games.

Hunter, If you aren't comfortable buying the parts and building your own PC you could still have a nice gaming PC by buying a cheap pre-built PC by a manufacturer with a Intel Core 2 Duo/Quad, 2GB, etc. and all you have to do is upgrade the on-board video card with something dedicated and you'll still have a decent PC overall that can be more than enough to play the games of today.

You can play it fine because these integrated cards are starting to actually starting to become DX9/DX10 capable supporting hardware transform & lightning, vertex/pixel shading even though they don't pack the horsepower as a dedicated GPU it's anything better than what it was in the past with integrated graphics (DX6/7-level w/ no shaders whatsoever).
