    Default Switching to Verizon FiOS TV/FiOS Internet 15mbps

    I had decided on this switch because I currently use DirecTV and it sucks, I had nothing but problems with the dish, channels missing/re-appearing & disappearing, and I had good experiences with Verizon through it's DSL 2mbps service and the FiOS 5mbps internet and I hope the FiOS TV will be just as good. I signed up for the $109.99 plan (2-year contract), normally it's $99 for the 5mbps internet, TV & phone, but the other plan gives you 15mbps internet plus a free 19" inch Sharp Aquos HDTV for a limited time and must be signed up by 2/3/08, and have it installed by 3/1/08 to get the HDTV for free. Down speed with 15mbps should be about approx. 2MB/sec or a bit less which is blazing fast, I currently have it 600KB/sec with the 5mbps package. I researched somewhere on what kind of TV I should be I receiving and it appears to be the Sharp LC-19SB24U model, which isn't bad looking, I have a pretty old sh!tty Samsung TV in my room btw which is from the 1998/1999 era that's about 16 inch or so...yeah...I don't do much with it. It should be a pretty big jump from me.

    Check to see if the bundle shows up in your area, it has to be the FiOS Triple Play bundle to get the HDTV.

    Only thing that sucks is that I might have to be switching routers again...

    Went from a crappy Westell when I had Verizon DSL as pictured here. I was glad having gotten rid of it when I switched to FiOS 5mbps and received the D-Link DI-624 in '06 when I had it installed, the old Westell was full of problems like disconnecting me randomly and sometimes wouldn't connect at all which all the headaches went away with the D-Link. Now, it appears they have switched their routers again for FiOS to an Actiontec MI424WR in 2007. Never heard of the brand before and don't know how great it is over the D-Link. I found a review on it here, however some of the extra layers of security I'm looking for like the WPA2 encryption aren't supported. My router still uses the older WPA-PSK security.

    Yup, I do in fact need it for FiOS TV since it somehow connects to it to give me the guide and the on-demand. Oh well... ;_;

    Why would you have to replace your router to get the same Fios technology? That sounds like a ripoff to me.

    If you read up on the wiki article about the Actiontec, you'll understand why they replaced the routers.

    It's not really a rip-off unless they charged extra to have your router replaced. But, it's free/included with the installation. So, how could you say no? I would but I have no other choice since it's needed for FiOS TV as well.

    Found this through a google search of FiOS 15mbps:



    I have a faster upload rate currently that that, 1500KB-1600KB/sec or so under 5mbps, hopefully it will increase when I switch to 15mbps. I believe it's 2mbps upload.

    Cox offers cable modem, correct? That's the thing with cable, it stays at a constant speed unlike DSL.
